HOW DO I STOP WINDOWS FROM ASKING ME
FOR A LOGON NAME AND PASSWORD AT STARTUP?
- Disable multiple user profiles. In Control Panel, launch the Passwords applet. Select the User Profiles tab. Select, “All users of this computer use the same preferences and desktop settings.”
- In TweakUI, on the Paranoia tab, disable the option to “Clear last user at logon.”
- In Control Panel, launch the Network applet and set “Primary Network Logon” to “Windows Logon.”
- Reboot the computer. When the password is requested, leave the password line empty and press Enter.
Microsoft has published a similar, but more exhaustive approach, which I recommend if the above, simplified form does not work. See the MSKB article, “How to Prevent a Windows 95/98 Logon Prompt at Startup.”
